Munich Security Conference: Jaishankar said - India's relations with China are in difficult times, the way will be decided by the situation on the border

In the Munich Security Conference being held in Germany, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar raised the issue of border dispute with China and said in clear words that the status of relations between the two countries will be decided by the situation on the border.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has said that relations between India and China are currently in a very difficult phase after Beijing violated the agreement not to deploy military forces along the border. He said this during discussions at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2022 in Germany on Saturday. Here Jaishankar emphasized that the situation on the border will determine the status of relations.

Jaishankar, in response to a question on behalf of the mediator Lin Kuok, said, "There was peace on the border for 45 years, there was permanent border management, there was no military casualty on the border since 1975. The change in this situation happened because we had an agreement with China that military forces would not be deployed on the border (Line of Actual Control or LAC) and China violated these agreements.

The situation on the border will decide the status of relations

“Now the situation on the border will decide the status of relations. It's natural. So it is clear that relations with China are in a difficult phase at this time. Let us inform that after the violent clashes in the Pangong Lake areas, a standoff started between the armies of India and China in eastern Ladakh. On 15 June 2020, tension had increased in the Galwan Valley. After this, both countries increased the deployment of military forces and weapons on the border.

This issue was also raised in Melbourne last week.

Last week in Melbourne, Australia, Jaishankar had said that the situation has become serious due to violation of agreements by China. Jaishankar had arrived in Germany on Friday to attend the Munich Security Conference. Here he met his German counterpart Annalina Bayerbock and discussed a range of bilateral and global issues, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, Ukraine and Afghanistan.
