Press conference of the three forces at Agneepath LIVE: Coaching institutes provoked students, now Agniveer will not be able to become a rioter

The Defense Ministry's press conference is underway after protests in many parts of the country against the Centre's Agneepath scheme. During this, Lt Gen Anil Puri said that those running the coaching institute have instigated the students to protest against Agneepath.

There is no place for indiscipline in the army

The person becoming Agniveer will give an affidavit that he has not performed or vandalized. No one will join the army without police verification. The youth should be physically ready, so that they can join us for training. Women will also become Agniveers, they will be included in different trades.

We had not anticipated the recent violence over this plan. There is no place for indiscipline in the armed forces. Everyone will have to give in writing that they will not be involved in any kind of arson/violence.

Woman Agniveer will be posted in Navy

During this, it was said by the Indian Navy that from November 21, the first naval Agniveer batch will start reaching the training institute INS Chilka, Odisha. For this, both male and female firefighters will be allowed. The Indian Navy currently has 30 women officers sailing on various Indian Navy ships. We have decided that we will also recruit women under the Agneepath scheme. They will also be deployed on warships.

Special things said in the press conference

Anil Puri said- Two years of research was done on this. The three army chiefs and the CDS together saw the average age of the armies of all the countries of the world. We need youth in the army. We also need consciousness along with passion.

The process of change in the army is going on since 1989. The average age of the army was 32 years, our target was to bring it down to 26.

The day Agneepath was announced, there were two announcements, first one and a half lakh jobs across the country and 46 thousand vacancies in the form of Agniveer in the army, but only about 46 thousand reached the people. Changes in age were made due to corona.

In the next 4-5 years, the number of our soldiers will be 50-60,000 and later it will increase to 90,000-1 lakh. We have started small with 46,000 to analyze the plan and increase the infrastructure capacity.

The changes after the announcement were not out of any fear, but all these were ready in advance.

We will get the first batch of 25,000 Agniveers by the first week of December and the second batch will be inducted around February 2023, taking it to 40,000.

Agneepath does not need to be rolled back, nor will it return.

Also present at the press conference are Lt Gen Anil Puri, Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Bansi Ponnappa, Adjutant General of the Indian Army, Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, Chief of the Indian Navy and Air Marshal Suraj Jha, Personnel In-charge of the Indian Air Force.

Second consecutive review meeting in two days
