Bhaskar Exclusive on Dhoni: Dhoni will not play IPL from next year, CSK management said - prepare the next captain before leaving

Just two days before the IPL, Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to leave the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Since the start of IPL, the captain of CSK is being changed for the first time i.e. for the first time in 14 years. Fans of Chennai and Dhoni are shocked. The question in my mind is why is this so? A CSK official told Bhaskar the reason for this decision. The official said that this IPL season will be Dhoni's last. The IPL management does not mind this, but he wants Dhoni to prepare a captain as soon as he is there. Read the important reasons related to Dhoni's resignation…

1. Jadeja was selected because Dhoni kept the proposal

Dhoni is also agreeable on the matter of CSK i.e. on preparing the new captain. Sources told Bhaskar that it was Dhoni who proposed Jadeja's name and it was accepted. Jadeja being an all-rounder is the biggest reason for this. The improvement in Jadeja's performance for the last two years is also the reason for this. At the time of retention itself, there were indications that the captain would be changed. CSK retained Jadeja for 16 crores, while Dhoni was retained for 12 crores.

2. Now the focus of most of the franchisees on the youth

This time 10 teams are playing in IPL. The age of any captain is not more than 37 years. 5 out of 10 teams are captain under 30, 4 under 35 and only one is 35 plus. He is Faf du Plessis who has been made the captain of Bangalore this time. Chennai has also chosen Jadeja, who is 33 years old. That is, now Chennai also wants to adopt the trend of Young Captain.

3. Team's result is better but Dhoni's performance is poor

If you look at the report card of Chennai Super Kings in the 14th season of IPL, then it is much better. The team has reached the final 9 times in 14 years and won the title 4 times. In 2021 i.e. last year also Chennai won the IPL title. But Dhoni's performance in the last two years has been very poor. In 2020, Dhoni scored only 200 runs in 14 innings. He had scored 114 runs in 16 innings of 2021 at a simple average of 16.29.

4. CSK need a mentor and Dhoni wants the same

In a recent interview, Gautam Gambhir had said that Dhoni, who batted at number 4 and 5, was seen at number 6 and 7 in the last season. Jadeja was also sent to bat before himself. Gambhir believes that this was Dhoni's well thought out plan. Now he only wants to be the wicketkeeper and mentor of the team. He also played the same role for Team India in the 2021 T20 World Cup. In such a situation, it can be assumed that Dhoni has resigned from the captaincy to prepare himself as the mentor of the team.

5. This could be the last IPL season as a player

Given the conditions like poor form and aging, it is believed that the 15th season of IPL could be Dhoni's last season. He will definitely be associated with the team. However, what his role will be in the future, it is yet to be clear. Yes, seeing the way Dhoni has been taking shocking decisions in his career, it is difficult to say anything concretely.

6. Creating Captaincy Options, Number One All-rounder

For CSK, Dhoni has to prepare the same option as himself. Jadeja has been selected on the first option, who is an all-rounder. While on the field, he would give them game plan and strategy training. Not that Jadeja is the only option. After him, Rituraj Gaikwad is also being seen as an option. Because, 33 year old Jadeja will not be a long term solution.
