Ravindra Jadeja's all-round performance helped India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first Test at Mohali. With this, the Indian team has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series. Forced to play follow-on, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 178 in the second innings. Batting first, India won the toss and made a score of 574/8 (declared). In reply, Sri Lanka's first innings was reduced to 174 runs.
Jadeja played an unbeaten innings of 175 runs in this Test match, taking 5 wickets in Sri Lanka's first innings and 4 wickets in second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin took 7 wickets in Tests. He has now surpassed Kapil Dev to become the second highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. The second test match will be played in Bengaluru from March 12.
This is Team India's second biggest win against Sri Lanka in Test cricket. Earlier in 2017 India had defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the Nagpur Test.

Ashwin breaks Kapil's record
Star off-spinner R Ashwin has become the second highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. With the wicket of Charith Aslanka (9) in the second innings of the Mohali Test, Ashwin made this record and broke the record of Kapil Dev (434). The record for taking most Test wickets for the Indian team is recorded in the name of Anil Kumble (619).
Sri Lanka disappointed in the second innings as well
Sri Lanka had a poor start while playing the follow-on and within 10 runs the team lost the first wicket. Lahiru Thirimanne was dismissed by R Ashwin without opening the account. At second slip, Rohit caught the catch of Thirimanne. After lunch, Ashwin took the wicket of Pathum Nisanka (6). The umpire gave Nisanka not out, but India took a review and got success. The ball went into the hands of Rishabh Pant, taking the edge of the Sri Lankan batsman.
After this Mohammed Shami gave the third success to the Indian team. He got captain Dimuth Karunaratne caught behind the wicket for 27 runs. Dhananjay de Silva and Angelo Mathews added 49 runs in 102 balls to handle the innings for the fourth wicket. This partnership was broken by Ravindra Jadeja by dismissing Dhananjay (30). Jadeja then took the wickets of Angelo Mathews (28) and Suranga Lakmal (0) in the same over.
