After the release of the film The Kashmir Files, more than one painful experience of Kashmiri Pandits is coming to the fore. One of them is Ravindra Pandit, whose father was not only treated inhumanly by the terrorists, but he was tortured and killed. Ravindra also narrated the plight of the camps set up for Kashmiri Pandits, hearing which one can get goosebumps.
Let us tell the painful story of the real Kashmir Files in the words of Ravindra…
Pandit Jagarnath, a resident of Bhagat Pora in Handwara, was murdered on 7 October 1990 in his apple orchard.
Pandit Jagarnath, a resident of Bhagat Pora in Handwara, was murdered on 7 October 1990 in his apple orchard.
Can anyone imagine the pain and agony that a person is pierced with a sharp object and the person is hung from a tree with an iron barbed wire wrapped around his neck? That person was my father Pandit Jagarnath. Had we taken up arms, there would have been another massacre.
In a scene of The Kashmir Files, the soul trembles to see two dead bodies hanging from a tree. This is not fiction, it is a real story.
This story is more dangerous than a scene in the film
'Of the three brothers, I was the most attached to my father. It was a teen ageer at that time. Couldn't get out of depression for two years. Even today, all of a sudden it comes to mind that when the first hole was done on his body, what must have happened to him… then the second hole, then the third and then the count of so many holes is not remembered.
Then a terrorist would have brought it by cutting the barbed wire around the garden, wrapped it around their neck. Then we must have pulled them and hanged them from the same tree of which we used to eat apples.'
Papa's body was hanging from the tree for three days
'On the evening of 7 October 1990, my father and a relative of ours had returned home from office. Our house was in village Bhagat Pora, Tehsil Handwara, District Kupwara. Papa had probably eaten the first morsel when our servant said to him, Sir, someone is calling you outside. When both of them came out leaving the plate, there was actually no other terrorist to meet them.
They took him to our garden about 500 meters or a kilometer away from home. There he was tortured a lot. We came to know later that the terrorists wanted him to be called Pakistan Zindabad, when he refused to say so, his entire body was probably pierced with nails.
Even then he kept on saying Vande Mataram, then tied a barbed wire around his neck and hanged him from his own apple tree. The terrorists also left a note on both the bodies hanging from the tree. If someone brought them down, then it would also have the same result, which happened to both of them. For three days no one pulled him from the tree. Then the police came. He brought them down from the tree.
