The thing is from the 1980's. General elections were held in the country. Congress won the maximum number of 353 seats. At the same time, only 31 candidates of Janata Party could win. This Janata Party came to power three years ago i.e. in 1977 with a huge majority.
After the defeat in the elections, the leaders of the Janata Party reviewed. The National Executive blamed the dual role of the leaders behind this defeat.
In fact, during the Emergency, this party, formed by the merger of many opposition parties, was caught in the conflict of ideology. The leaders of the socialist faction were demanding a ban on the dual role of Jana Sangh leaders. Even so, it was said that the leaders of the Janata Party should either stay in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) or work for the party. One of the two has to be chosen.
The result of this ban was that the leaders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh parted ways with the Janata Party. On 6 April 1980, these leaders formed a new political organization named Bharatiya Janata Party. This is where the BJP started. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected the founding president of the new party.
The Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi was assassinated on 31 October 1984. There was a ruckus across the country. The Congress decided to hold elections immediately and the Election Commission announced it. The Bharatiya Janata Party participated for the first time in the 1984 general election. Congress stormed in the election. Congress's 404 candidates won the election in sympathy wave. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which contested the elections for the first time, got only two seats in its account. Then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi also made fun of it. Said, 'We two, our two.' His sarcasm was on party president Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani and two BJP MPs.
These two leaders fed lotus for the first time
