The hijab controversy in Karnataka does not seem to be stopping. After banning schoolgirls from wearing hijab, now action is being taken to ban it in the university. The state education department has prohibited girl students and invigilator teachers from wearing any religious identity such as hijab for the second pre-university exam.
Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh said on Wednesday that it is important that all students come in their respective uniforms. Although private candidates and exam-repeating students are exempted from wearing the uniform, they will be required to comply with the Karnataka High Court orders regarding dress code and state government notifications.
6,84,255 candidates will appear in this exam to be held from April 22 to May 18. There are 6,00,519 regular candidates, 61808 repeaters, while 21,928 are private candidates. Among the candidates, 3,46,936 are boys, while 3,37,319 are girls.

The Karnataka High Court had said two important things in its decision regarding the ongoing tussle on this matter. First- Hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam. Second- Students cannot refuse to wear the prescribed uniform of school or college.
Moral education stories will be included in the school syllabus
BC Nagesh also said that moral education stories from the religion of which 90% students are in the school from the academic session 2022-23 will be included in the syllabus. He also said that the government would not discriminate on religion while choosing moral education stories.
He said that Bhagavad Gita, Panchatantra, Ramayana and Mahabharata will form part of the moral education syllabus. These will be kept only for the purpose of education, out of which exams will not be taken.
Tipu Sultan's chapter not removed
The minister also pointed out that the government has not removed the chapter 'Tiger of Mysore' on Tipu Sultan from the syllabus. Actually, earlier BJP MLA Apchhu Ranjan had demanded in front of the government that the chapter related to Tipu Sultan should be removed. He said that Tipu Sultan was responsible for the bloodshed in Kodagu. In such a situation, negative things about him should also come in front of everyone.
