Asani, the first cyclonic storm of the year, will make its impact in the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha on Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, gusty winds with a speed of 90 to 125 kmph can occur in the sea areas of Bengal and Odisha. During this, it will also rain at many places. The effect of the storm will also remain in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh. From May 11 to 13, it will rain here, as well as strong winds.


The Meteorological Center Bhubaneswar said that the cyclonic storm Asani moved in a west-northwest direction with a speed of 12 kmph during the last 6 hours. It is currently about 590 km south-west of Puri and about 510 km south-west of Gopalpur, Odisha.




Due to the effect of Asani in Visakhapatnam, there were high waves in the sea on Monday.


Cyclone Asani will continue to move in northwest direction till the night of May 10. Thereafter, it will turn northeastwards from Odisha coast towards northwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to weaken in the next 24 hours.

High Seas with Winds: The sea condition will be very rough over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and north coast of Gangetic West Bengal, with high seas and gusty winds to continue.

Heat wave conditions in Rajasthan, MP, Haryana and Punjab: Heat wave conditions are possible over Rajasthan, North Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, West Madhya Pradesh. Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated areas of Haryana, Delhi and Punjab from May 10.

First cyclone of the year 2022

Asani is the first cyclonic storm of this year. Earlier in 2021 there were 3 cyclonic storms. Cyclone Javad came in December 2021. At the same time, Cyclone Gulab knocked in September 2021, while in May 2021, Cyclone Yas wreaked havoc in many states including Bengal, Bihar.

Cyclone Asani is a name given by Sri Lanka which means 'anger' in Sinhala. The cyclone to be formed after Asani will be called Sitarang, a name given by Thailand. Names that will be used in the future include India's Ghurni, Probaho, Jhar and Murasu, Biparjoy (Bangladesh), Asif (Saudi Arabia), Dixam (Yemen) and Toofan (Iran) and Shakti (Sri Lanka).
