Four friends drowned while bathing in Garra river on Sunday afternoon in Khwajgipur village of Pachdevra police station area in Hardoi district. The villagers rescued two children while the bodies of two were traced late in the evening with the help of divers. Titu (8), Pappu (12), Maruti (9) and Prem (7) were friends of Khawajgipur village. At around 2.30 pm on Sunday, the four friends had gone to graze cattle on the banks of the Garra river that passed near the village. Leaving the cattle grazing, all four started bathing in the river. The four friends started drowning in deep water.

The villagers present on the banks of the river raised an alarm. Hearing the noise, a crowd of villagers came to the spot. The villagers took out Maruti, Prem safely by jumping into the river while Titu and Pappu drowned. The family members were shocked by the news of the drowning of both the children. The relatives started their search with the help of local divers. Late in the evening, divers found the bodies of both of them at some distance from the village. The family members informed the police about the incident. SO Anil Kumar Singh said that action is being taken after questioning.
