The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) has suggested that those who need to travel abroad can take a precautionary dose of the COVID vaccine even before the stipulated waiting period of nine months. News agency PTI has given this news quoting sources. However, the NTAGI has not yet recommended reducing the period between the second and precautionary dose of the vaccine from nine months to six months for all. Sources said the issue could be discussed in the upcoming meetings.




As of now, all people over the age of 18 who have completed nine months of their second dose of vaccine are eligible for a precautionary dose. As part of India's official delegation to the Union Health Ministry seeking precautionary doses of the COVID vaccine for those traveling abroad for employment, business commitments, admission to foreign educational institutions, participation in sporting events and bilateral and multilateral meetings. Several representations have been received. ,



A source said the issue was discussed on Wednesday and NTAGI has recommended that those who are required to travel abroad, before the waiting period of nine months as per the requirements of the country they are visiting. Precautionary doses can also be administered. In India, on January 10 this year, a precautionary or booster dose of the anti-coronavirus vaccine was introduced for people over 60 years of age and suffering from serious illness, including healthcare and frontline workers.


On April 10, the country began to introduce a precautionary dose of the vaccine to all people above the age of 18 years.
