Separatist leader Yasin Malik, lodged in Tihar Jail, has confessed his crime in NIA Court Delhi. Yasin Malik is a separatist leader. He has admitted before the court that he has been involved in terrorism and separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, the court had ordered framing of charges under the UAPA against several separatist leaders, including Yasin Malik.
Malik told the court that he was under Section 16 (terrorist activity), Section 17 (raising funds for terroristic activity), Section 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), Section 20 (member of terrorist group or organization) of UAPA. He does not want to challenge the charges against him under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
On May 19, Special Judge Praveen Singh will hear arguments regarding sentencing for the charges leveled against Malik. The maximum punishment of which is life imprisonment. Meanwhile, the court ordered Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam, Mohammad Yusuf Shah, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, Mohammad Akbar Khande, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali, Charges were formally framed against other Kashmiri separatist leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, and Naval Kishore Kapoor. The chargesheet was also filed against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, who have been declared absconders in the case.
