Eight people died on Monday after consuming spurious liquor in Gujarat's Botad district. At the same time, 18 people are ill, out of which the condition of 5 is serious. According to the information, all are residents of Rojid village of Botad and all drank alcohol on Sunday night. Out of the sick, 5 have been admitted to Civil Hospital, Botad, while 5 critical patients have been referred to Sir Tea Hospital in Bhavnagar.

According to the Botad police, all the people who were victims of spurious liquor had gone to Nabhoi village near Rojid on Sunday night and drank alcohol. On Monday morning everyone started having stomach ache and vomiting. The family members took him to the hospital. Out of the total 18 patients, five serious people have been admitted to the hospital in Bhavnagar.

Liquor being sold despite prohibition
In 1960, when Gujarat was carved out of Bombay as a separate state, prohibition was imposed here. In 2017, the Gujarat government amended the law related to prohibition and made a provision for strict punishment. Under this, if someone sells liquor illegally, then he can be punished with 10 years imprisonment and fine up to 5 lakh rupees.
