In the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam, Rs 27.9 crore cash has been found from the second house of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Mamata's minister Parth. Along with this, 5 kg of gold has also been seized. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday evening launched raids on his second flat in Belgharia, which lasted till the early hours of Thursday.
When asked about the cash, Arpita said that all these money belong to Partha Chatterjee. He said, 'Parth used to use this house to keep money. I had no idea that so much cash would be kept in the house.
ED officials said, "Never before had Arpita told that cash was kept at her second flat as well. But when we raided the house, we found bundles of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 notes. Bundles of Rs 50 lakh were made from Rs 2000 notes and Rs 20 lakh bundles were made from Rs 500 notes. We also got gold worth Rs 4.31 crore. In this, 3 gold bricks of 1 kg each, 6 bracelets (all of 500-500 grams) and a gold pen have been found.
Found 3 diaries containing transaction records
According to ED sources, 3 diaries have also been found from Arpita's flat in the raid which lasted for 18 hours, in which the record of the transaction is recorded in the codeword. The investigating agency has also recovered a 2,600-page document from the house, which mentions the joint property of Parth and Arpita.
The ED also raided the premises of Parth and Arpita's close friends on Wednesday itself. Apart from this, ED teams had also reached Belgharia and Rajdanga in North 24 Parganas district for investigation. Arpita's house from where the cash was found is in Belgharia.
So far, both Arpita's houses have been raided for 44 hours, in which about 50 crore cash and a large amount of gold have been recovered. ED has sealed one of the two flats in Arpita's Belgharia Town Club. Society notice is also pasted in front of a flat. It is written in it that Arpita has not paid Rs 11,819 for maintenance.
