Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen and Lalit Modi have announced their marriage. Sushmita's personal life has been no less filmy. Sushmita, who became Miss India at the age of 18 and Miss Universe at the age of 19, has been in discussions since her first film about her affairs. Director Vikram Bhatt was the writer of Sushmita's debut film Dastak. The name of both of them was very much connected and remained in the headlines for years. This series of relationships, which took place in 1996, continued till the breakup with Rohman Shawl in 2021.

Sushmita was born on 19 November 1975 in a Bengali Baidya Family. Born in Hyderabad, Sushmita's father Subir Sen was a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force and mother Shubhra Sen was a jewelry designer. Early education took place in Hyderabad itself. Then graduated from Airforce Gold Jubilee Institute, New Delhi. It was during this time that Sushmita joined modeling.

In 1994, Sushmita participated in the beauty contest along with modeling. Aishwarya Rai was also in this contest, but Sushmita won the title of Miss India. Aishwarya had lost by a few points then but she won the Miss World title this year, when Sushmita became Miss Universe. Some reports said that Sushmita did not want to enter the Miss India competition because Aishwarya was considered a strong contender there, Sushmita was being called an underdog. But, still some people insisted and Sushmita defeated Aishwarya and captured the crown of Miss India.
