What happened:
In June 2013, Narendra Modi, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, was made the President of the BJP's Election Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. BJP leader and Deputy CM of Bihar Sushil Modi made a statement that this Lok Sabha election will be fought under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Nitish Kumar was angry about Narendra Modi being made the PM project.
He had already announced that if BJP makes Modi the PM candidate, then JDU will break ties with BJP. According to political analysts, during this time Nitish Kumar also wanted to save his secular image.
Nitish invited two ministers of BJP quota to meet, but both the ministers refused to meet. One of these leaders was the deputy CM and the convener of NDA in Bihar, Nand Kishore Yadav. This was a great example of the growing bitterness between BJP and JDU.
Both the ministers told that Nitish wanted to talk to them on the issue related to BJP's PM candidate and Narendra Modi. He sent a message to Nitish that only the central leadership of BJP will talk to you on this issue. At the same time, BJP quota ministers stopped going to office and handling government files.
Nitish sacked all the BJP ministers and on 16 June parted ways with the alliance. At that time, JD(U) had 118 MLAs in the 243-member assembly, while a majority of 122 was needed to run the government. The BJP had 91 MLAs in the assembly. Nitish needed only 4 more MLAs to remain in the government.
On June 19, Nitish won the trust vote in the House. For this, 117 MLAs of JDU and 4 MLAs of Congress voted. Apart from this, 4 independent MLAs and one CPI MLA also voted in favor of Nitish government. Lalu's RJD had 22 seats in the assembly.
In the Nitish government, the matter has also become almost final on the division of the department. The party which has the number of MLAs, it will get that share. RJD will get maximum 21 departments, JDU will get 12.
Before the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2014, Nitish Kumar had even said about the BJP, 'Whether we want to stay or get mixed in the soil, but will not compromise with you.'
Second time 2022: Accused BJP of weakening JDU
Nitish Kumar wanted as many ministers in the Union Cabinet from JDU quota, as many ministers have been made from BJP quota. In fact, there are 16-16 MPs of both the parties in Bihar. Annoyed by not getting equal proportion of representation, Nitish accused the BJP of weakening the JDU.
Meanwhile, news of an audio leak came. In which RCP Singh, who was the National President and Union Minister of JDU, was accused of making a big difference in the party. JDU sent notice to RCP Singh. In this, the party sought answers regarding his unaccounted assets. RCP Singh was accused of buying about 40 bighas of land in the name of his family.
JD(U) national president Lalan Singh on 7 August accused the BJP of conspiring to break the party with the help of RCP Singh. Singh said- Janata Dal will not join the United Union Cabinet once again. It was also said in media reports that RPC Singh was blamed for leaving the alliance, but Nitish was trying to get out of the alliance long ago.
There were many differences of opinion between BJP and JDU regarding the policy of the central government. The stand of both the parties also differed on One Nation-One Election and Agneepath scheme. JDU was also against BJP on issues like Uniform Civil Code and Triple Talaq.
Earlier in March 2022, CM Nitish Kumar accused the Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha of breaking the rules from the BJP quota. There was also a dispute between Nitish Kumar and Vijay Sinha inside and outside the House. Nitish also wanted that he should have control over the ministers made from BJP quota in his government, while in such cases not a single one was heard.
