Justice UU Lalit can be the next Chief Justice of India, CJI Ramana recommends to the Center

Justice UU Lalit can become the 49th CJI of the country. CJI NV Ramana has recommended his name to Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. CJI Ramana will retire on August 26. Justice Lalit may take oath as CJI on August 27. However, Justice Lalit will also become the CJI for only 74 days, as he will retire on 8 November.





Justice UU Lalit has been a part of several landmark judgments including outlawing the practice of 'triple talaq'. If he is appointed the next CJI, he will be the second CJI to be promoted directly from the bar to a bench of the SC. Before him, Justice S. M. Sikri was the first lawyer to be directly elevated to the SC bench in March 1964. He became the 13th CJI in January 1971.

Film and TV's popular actor Mithilesh Chaturvedi has passed away. According to media reports, Mithilesh breathed his last in Lucknow on the evening of 3 August. He was suffering from heart related problems. According to reports, Mithilesh Chaturvedi had a heart attack a few days ago, after which he shifted to his hometown Lucknow. The registration for Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) and Matric Recruit (MR) in the Indian Navy closed on Wednesday. In which more than 80 thousand applications were received. In a tweet made on the official handle of the Navy, it is written that the registration process through the Agneepath scheme in the Indian Navy has been completed. 9.55 lakh people including 82 thousand women candidates have registered to become Agniveer.
