A major accident took place during the immersion of the idol of Maa Durga in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. During the idol immersion, 8 people died due to heavy flow in the Mal river. Jalpaiguri SP Devarshi Dutta said that 20-25 people are still missing. NDRF team has reached the spot as soon as the information about the accident is received. Relief and rescue operations are on.
According to the information, people had gone to the Mal river to immerse the idol of Maa Durga in the late evening. During this, there was a strong current in the river, many people who entered the water for idol immersion got caught in it. As soon as the information was received, the police and fire brigade team reached the spot. The administration has started the work of locating the people with the help of JCB.
