The Election Commission has written a letter to the political parties regarding the election promises. In this, the commission has said – Political parties should give accurate information about election promises to the voters in their manifestos. Also tell whether they have the financial resources to fulfill the promises they are making. Simply put, the commission has asked political parties to tell the public how they will raise funds for their announcements.
In this letter written after the announcement of by-elections for 7 assembly seats in 6 states of the country, the Commission has said – Political parties should tell the voters in a fixed format that how true are the promises being made? Apart from this, also tell the voters what financial resources are with the state or central government to fulfill these.
Election Commission said – we cannot sit blindly
The commission said that we cannot remain blind on this issue. If political parties are just making hollow promises, it will have far-reaching ramifications. In its letter, the commission has asked all political parties to give their suggestions on this issue by October 19.
