BJP's U-turn on development from Ram Mandir in Tripura: Tough competition from CPI(M)-Congress, big promises made in Manifesto last hope

Voting is today in Tripura with 60 assembly seats. The contest is between two alliances. On one side is the BJP-IPFT (Indigenous People's Front of Tripura) government, and on the other is the CPI(M)-Congress. Trying to save power, the BJP fielded all its star campaigners.

Many big leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Assam CM Hemant Biswa Sarma held rallies. But, the equation seems to be going towards CPI(M)-Congress. However, the BJP also took a U-turn from Ram Mandir and made tall promises of development in the manifesto.

On the other hand, Tipra Motha, the party contesting the elections for the first time, has the power to spoil the maths of both the alliances. BJP's concern does not end here, the situation on the ground shows that the issue of building Ram temple in Ayodhya in Tripura did not work. The proof of this is the rally of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited Tripura in January, launched BJP's Jan Vishwas Yatra in South Tripura. During this, he mentioned the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

This rally took place in Sabroom on 5th January. Shah asked the crowd, 'Should the Ram temple be built in Ayodhya or not?' The answer came, but the voice was not as loud as in North India. Amit Shah again asked the same question and said - just speak louder. The second time too the crowd did not respond as expected.

Shah took the matter further, 'Babar had demolished the temple, Narendra Modi built the temple. Congress was behind keeping this matter in the court for so long. Narendra Modi came and the Supreme Court ordered the temple to be built. There was applause, but most of those who clapped were BJP workers.

Shah was saying- 'In 2019, Rahul Gandhi used to taunt us, the temple will be built there, but will not tell the date. We want to tell them more that on January 1, 2024, the temple will be ready there.

It was clear from the sound of applause that the agenda of Hindutva is not proving to be that effective on the people of Tripura. BJP has hope for development along with the charisma of Chief Minister Manik Saha.

The issue of Ram Mandir was neutralized, then the strategy changed

A local BJP leader says, “After this rally, the top leadership of the party understood that the Ayodhya issue will not work here. As per plan B, we went ahead and started attacking the alliance of CPI(M) and Congress. You can see in rallies and meetings that after that all the leaders who reached Tripura from Delhi raised the issue of the opposition alliance.

Be it Yogi Adityanath's rally on February 8 or Narendra Modi's rally on February 12. Amit Shah himself also came to rally after that, but he did not mention Ayodhya. Assam Chief Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma said on February 9 in Toi Bazar, a tribal area of South Tripura- 'This alliance is a pair of snake-mongoose, you people understood that these people used to fight during the day and do illu-ilu at night . Now they are openly married.
