81-year-old Asaram has been convicted by the Gandhinagar Sessions Court of Gujarat on charges of raping another woman. In this case, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment. Even 4 years ago, the Jodhpur court sentenced Asaram to life imprisonment in the case of raping a minor from UP. Since then he is lodged in Jodhpur jail. Arresting Asaram was a very difficult task. It is a matter of 21 August 2013. A Delhi Police team entered the office of Jodhpur West Deputy Commissioner Ajay Lamba. There was a minor girl with the team, who was accusing Asaram of raping her. The girl told that she was raped on the night of August 15 in the ashram located in Manai village.
Initially, the officials did not believe, but when the girl started telling about every part of the ashram, a crime scene was created in front of Lamba. The question arose in his mind that how could anyone know him so well without visiting the ashram, 38 km from Jodhpur?
After this Jodhpur police registers a case against Asaram under sections 342, 376, 354 (A), 506, 509 and 134 of CrPC, section 8 of POCSO and section 23, 26 of JJA. IPS Ajay Lamba called Jodhpur West's ACP Chanchal Mishra and made him the Investigative Officer of the case.
After this the investigation of the case started. The medical examination of the girl was done, her statement was recorded. Finally the statements were verified. When it became completely clear that Asaram had raped the girl, it was decided to arrest Asaram for questioning. On August 27, summons was sent to him asking him to appear in Jodhpur for arrest on August 30, but Asaram did not reach there on the fixed date.
After this, the police themselves decided to go to the ashram and arrest Asaram and with this the real challenge of the police started….
