Bengaluru lost its third consecutive match in WPL: Gujarat Giants won by 11 runs; Sophia Dunkley studded the league's fastest fifty

Gujarat Giants beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 11 runs in the Women's Premier League on Wednesday. This is Gujarat's first win in the tournament, while Bengaluru's third consecutive defeat. After winning the toss and electing to bat at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, Gujarat scored 201 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In response, the Bengaluru team could only manage 190 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.


Heather Knight from Bangalore remained unbeaten on 30 off 11 balls. Opener Sophie Devine scored the highest 66 runs. Ashley Gardner took 3 wickets and Annabel Sutherland took 2 wickets from Gujarat.




Knight-Divine gave hope

Sophie Devine from Bengaluru scored an innings of 66 off 45 balls. He first partnered with Smriti Mandhana and then Alice Perry. After Devine's dismissal, Heather Knight finally scored an unbeaten 30 off 11 balls, but could not win her team.


In the rest of the Bangalore batters, Mandhana scored 18, Perry 32, Richa Ghosh 10, Kanika Ahuja 10 and Poonam Khemnar scored 2 runs. Shreyanka Patil remained unbeaten after scoring 11 runs in 4 balls. Apart from Gardner from Gujarat, Annabel Sutherland got 2 wickets and Manasi Joshi got one wicket.



Got a quick start in the powerplay

Chasing the target of 202 runs, Bengaluru got off to a brisk start by skipper Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine. Mandhana got out after scoring 18 runs in the sixth over. After his departure, Sophie Devine led the innings with Ellyse Perry. Bengaluru's score in the powerplay was 59 runs at the loss of one wicket.



This is how the wickets of Bengaluru fell.


First: Ashley Gardner lofted the second ball of the sixth over on the off stump. Smriti Mandhana went to play over long on, but was caught by Manasi Joshi at mid-on. Mandhana scored 18 runs off 14 balls.

Second: Manasi Joshi bowled the fifth ball of the 12th over short of good length on off stump. Ellyse Perry went to cut but was caught by Dayalan Hemlata at backward point. Perry scored 32 runs off 25 balls.

Third: The first ball of the 16th over, Ashley Gardner bowled a fuller length in the line of stumps. Richa Ghosh missed the ball completely and got bowled. Richa scored 10 runs in 10 balls.

Fourth: Annabel Sutherland bowled a full toss in the second ball of the 17th over. Sophie Devine tried to hit a six over long-on, but was caught by Ashley Gardner standing inside the boundary. Devine scored 66 off 45 balls.

Fifth: The first ball of the 19th over, Ashley Gardner bowled a good length outside the off stump. Kanik Ahuja came forward to play the shot, but missed the ball. Behind the wicket, keeper Sushma Verma stumped him out. Kanika scored 10 runs on 7 balls.

Sixth: The first ball of the 20th over, Annabel Sutherland bowled a yorker on the off stump. Poonam Khemnar scooped but was caught by 12th man Ashwani Kumari at short fine leg.
