Constitution is supreme in the Republic of India. Despite this, there are no less people who point fingers at the constitution. The latest incident is of July, 2022. A Kerala minister created a ruckus when he termed the constitution as anti-democracy.
But such questions and controversies on the Constitution are not new, but even during the making of the Constitution, the members of the Constituent Assembly itself, which made it, have raised questions on the work and thinking of the Drafting Committee (whose chairman was Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar).
Do you know why the Constitution is considered to have come into force on January 26, 1950, while the Constituent Assembly passed it on November 26, 1949, according to its Preamble?
Do you know why a member of the Constituent Assembly had said that instead of promoting democracy and federal structure, this constitution ends it.
Do you know who finally elected the Constituent Assembly? Who were the voters in his election?

It is written in the last line of the Preamble of the Constitution that the Constituent Assembly had passed the draft of the Constitution on November 26, 1949.
Passing meant that the constitution was ready and accepted by all the members of the assembly. Now all that remained was to be signed.
Two months later, January 24, 1950, was fixed as the only date for signing. It was signed on January 24 itself, but the date for the implementation of the constitution was fixed on January 26, 1950.
In fact, on December 19, 1929, for the first time in the Lahore session of the Congress, the demand for complete independence was made. After this it was announced to the public on January 26, 1930.
An appeal was made to the people that every year January 26, should be celebrated as Independence Day. After this, every year Independence Day was also celebrated on 26 January in many places in the country.
Some people believe that in order to keep this date memorable, despite the constitution being passed, it waited two months to implement it.
To know the truth of this two-month wait, we analyzed the debate between the members during the sessions of the Constituent Assembly. The facts are really shocking…
The date of January 26 was mentioned for the first time in the Constituent Assembly on January 22, 1947.
From December 9, 1946, the first session of the Constituent Assembly, formed to frame the country's own constitution, began. In the December 1946 session itself, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru brought a resolution regarding the aims and objectives of the Sabha. There was also mention of making India independent in this proposal.
